Transportation of Dangerous Goods (Canada) – TDG Online Training

This online TDG training course provides workers with a practical understanding of Canada’s Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements and how they apply when dangerous goods are handled, offered for transport, or transported within Canada. The course is designed to help participants recognize dangerous goods, understand their responsibilities, and make informed decisions that reduce the risk of transportation incidents, releases, injuries, property damage, and environmental harm.

Participants will learn how dangerous goods are classified within the nine TDG hazard classes, how to identify dangerous goods using shipping names and UN numbers, and how to use Schedule 1 of the TDG Regulations. The course explains the proper use of safety marks, labels, placards, shipping documents, and approved means of containment, while helping learners understand how these requirements work together to communicate hazards throughout the transportation process.

The training also addresses the responsibilities of employers, consignors, carriers, drivers, handlers, and other personnel involved with dangerous goods. Participants will learn how to determine when TDG requirements apply, recognize common exemptions and special situations, verify documentation and safety marks, identify problems before dangerous goods are transported, and understand the importance of working within the scope of their training and assigned duties.

Throughout the course, learners are introduced to practical workplace and transportation examples that demonstrate how TDG requirements apply to everyday activities. Topics include classification, documentation, dangerous goods safety marks, means of containment, loading and handling, segregation considerations, emergency response, accidental releases, reporting requirements, and the actions workers should take when dangerous goods are damaged, leaking, incorrectly documented, improperly marked, or otherwise unsafe for transport.

The course also explains the importance of TDG training and certification. Workers who handle, offer for transport, or transport dangerous goods must be adequately trained for the duties they perform or work under the direct supervision of a person who is adequately trained. Training must reflect the actual TDG responsibilities assigned to the worker.

By the end of the course, participants will have a stronger understanding of how to recognize dangerous goods, locate and interpret critical transportation information, apply TDG requirements to their work, and respond appropriately when transportation conditions change or problems are identified.
